Marie and Dan attended the 2019 Dynamics at Surfaces Gordon Research Conference in Newport, RI. Marie presented a poster on CO oxidation on Rh(111) and Dan gave an invited talk on the group’s recent work. A great meeting, and we got to catch up with friends of the lab and meet new folks.
The group attended the 65th AVS International Symposium in Long Beach, CA in late October. A good time was had by all.
Our research group received a three year grant from the NSF. Thank you for the support! Beside the work on highly-oxidized metal surfaces, we will also be able to enhance our outreach to the Chicago Public Schools. (CHE-1800291)
Rachael won the Dumbach Medal for best dissertation and Marie won the best TA award for 2017-18! Congratulations!
Rachael was the 2018 Anna Louise Hoffman Award for Outstanding Achievement in Graduate Research winner! Iota Sigma Pi is the national honor society for women in Chemistry, and one award is given per year. This is a remarkable achievement!
AVS 64 was a big success for Rachael and the group. Rachael won the Morton M. Traum Surface Science Student award and the Nellie Yeoh Whetten Award, a top-level AVS wide award. EXCELLENT, Rachael!
Rachael is a finalist for a top-level national AVS graduate student award. She will present at the 64th International Symposium this fall in Tampa, FL. She is also a finalist for the Morton M. Traum Award.
Our paper on the stability of oxide phases on Rh(111) came out today in The Journal of Physical Chemistry C.
Congratulations to Marie Turano for being named an honorable mention for the 2017 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship!
Dan found out that he received tenure and will be promoted to Associate Professor. Thanks to all those who were (are) part of the group!
We completed 5 days studying O on Ag(111) at APS.
Our paper, "Exposure of Pt(553) and Rh(111) to atomic and molecular oxygen: Do defects enhance subsurface oxygen formation?" was accepted by the Journal of Physics: Condensed matter, nice!
Rachael travelled to Italy to present a poster at the 2017 Chemical Reactions at Surfaces Gordon Research Conference and Seminar. Additionally, she moderated a session at the GRS. She will also be spending a week with our collaborators at Leiden University, in The Netherlands.
Rachael, Marie, and Dan attended the 2016 AVS International meeting in Nashville, TN, from Nov. 7-11; Marie presented a poster and Rachael and Dan each gave talks.
We had a nice mini-group reunion at the 2016 Denkewalter Lecture; (L-R) Victor, Avesh, Dan, Dana, and Rachael. Rachael also won the poster award!
The group presented three posters at the AVS Prairie meeting at IIT on Sep. 8th. Rachael presented our collaboration w/ the Leiden group, Marie our recent O on Rh work, and Noelle and Eleanor our CIRD project.
