Sample transfer from STM chamber to manipulator.  Ag(111) crystal is mounted on a specially designed sample holder with type-K thermocouple contacts.  The STM chamber wobblestick is inserting the sample into the manipulator for preparation.

 

The sample is now mounted in the manipulator and can be retracted to the preparation chamber.

Ultra-High Vacuum Surface Science Analysis Chamber

Equipped with PHI 10-110 CMA for Auger Electron Spectroscopy and a UTi 100C QMS for TPD and RGA.

 

The sample is mounted on a custom-built sample holder that fits into a sapphire receiver, affixed to a copper bloc.  The bloc can be cooled with LN2 to chill the sample to less than 90 K.
